Ambassador Aviva Raz Shechter

Ambassador Aviva Raz Shechter is a veteran Israeli diplomat with more than three decades of experience advancing national security, peace negotiations, and international diplomacy. She served as Israel’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, where she led Israel’s engagement on human rights, humanitarian affairs, and disarmament.

From 2020 to 2023, she was Israel’s Special Envoy for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security, promoting gender equality in conflict resolution and peacebuilding processes. Earlier in her career, Ambassador Raz Shechter held senior positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Deputy Director General for the Middle East and Peace Process Division and Director of the Department for Antisemitism and Holocaust Issues, where she founded the Global Forum for Combating Antisemitism.

Her diplomatic postings include Washington, D.C., Amman, Montreal, and leadership roles in Lebanon peace negotiations and international development cooperation. She currently serves as a senior instructor at Israel’s National Security Defense College. Ambassador Raz Shechter holds a master’s degree in Middle Eastern Affairs and a bachelor’s degree in Middle Eastern and International Affairs, both from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
