Dr. Einav Levy, Founding Director of the Israeli School of Humanitarian Action and the Lucien Research Center for Humanitarian Action, will explore the moral and ethical dilemmas of the war in Gaza, drawing on his combat experience, academic expertise, and his work in international humanitarian action. He will reflect on the personal challenges he faced as an officer responsible for his soldiers’ safety, alongside the broader dilemmas Israel faces: balancing national security with its humanitarian obligations to Gaza’s civilian population, including women, children, and the elderly. His unique experience enables him to present a complex and nuanced perspective—captured in the headline of an interview with him published in Haaretz:"One day our children will ask us how we behaved in this war. We will have to answer them."
In addition to his work with the Israeli School of Humanitarian Action and the Lucien Research Center, Dr. Levy also heads the Stress, Trauma, and Resilience program at Tel-Hai College, and serves as an Innovation Associate at Binnovate Digital Health. An experienced leader and entrepreneur, he specializes in humanitarian action and the intersection of civil society, business, government, and academia. He is an officer in the IDF Paratroopers Brigade, and has served in Gaza during the October 7 War.
